The best way to build a concrete slab is to replace as much of the cement with flyash as possible. This however is still not as ecologically sound as a timber floor, particularly if the timber and particle board flooring is actually sustainably forested. In my opinion the only real way to know that timber is sustainably sourced is to purchase Forest Stewardship Council certified timber.
